The most common side effects of the abortion pill are bleeding, cramping, nausea, and diarrhea. They are expected and are part of how the medicine works. Heavy bleeding and strong cramping usually last 3 to 5 hours after you take misoprostol. Call the provider if you soak through 2 or more pads per hour for 2 or more hours, have a fever above 100.4 degrees F for more than 24 hours, or have severe pain that ibuprofen does not relieve.
